Travelling Australia - Journal 2015c
We spent several quiet days in Mildura. I searched out some interesting birding sites after getting very useful material from the Information Centre but many roads or tracks were still muddy after recent rain and were difficult to negotiate.
Avocets on Lake Ranfurly, Mildura. The two on the left are using their long beaks to pick food items off the bottom of this shallow, probably saline, lake.
Red-capped Plover (or Red-capped Dottterel) foraging along the edge of Lake Ranfurly, Mildura. This is a widespread, but cautious and very well camouflaged, little bird which has been photographed on the Eighty Mile Beach in WA and on the west coast of Tasmania, near Strahan.
