Glen Innes to Casino
We left the rest area after a quiet night heading along the New England Highway to Tenterfield where we turned onto the Bruxner Highway for the descent to the Clarence and Richmond River Valleys and Casino. The Richmond River Valley was noticeably green in comparison with paddocks around Tamworth or Canberra but we were soon to discover that the sub-soil moisture level has been depleted during long dry spells and long, heavy rainfall is badly needed.
Arriving home I reversed the caravan into its parking spot and we began unpacking after a shorter than usual journey lasting 25 nights, driving 4775 kilometres and buying 936 litres of fuel at an average price of 149.9 cents per litre. Average fuel price was lower than our earlier (February to April) trip this year when we had paid an average of 159.5 cents per litre. The noticeable feature this trip was the variability in fuel price between towns sometimes no more than 60 kilometres apart.
Rain, which had been sort-of threatening all day, finally arrived on a hot night (more than 30° at sunset).
