29 January 2008 - North Haven to The Entrance
The morning was bright and sunny as we left North Haven heading out to the Pacific Highway at Kew where we turned south. Traffic was light on the highway and the weather good. We stopped at Talawal rest area for a break. The van continued to trail along behind very comfortably. While making the move from Penrith to Casino we had made several trips along the Pacific Highway and a stop at Heatherbrae had become a routine part of our travels; we stopped at McDonalds in Heatherbrae for lunch on this occasion.
ABC radio reported that the F3 motorway southbound lanes were blocked by a truck on fire near the Berowa exit and all southbound traffic was stopped. The blockage lasted for many hours; news of the blockage had spread and traffic on the Freeway southbound from Newcastle was very light comprising the minority who hadn't heard of the block or those who, like us, intended to turn off the motorway before reaching the stoppage.
We turned off to go to The Entrance through Toukley and setting up on site 111 where we had stayed before.
This site is on the shore of Tuggerah Lake against the water and provides an excellent view of waterbirds when the tide is out.
