Painted Desert
Edge of eroded section Previous photograph Thumbnails Next photograph
Edge of the eroded section of the Painted Desert near Mt Batterbee. The softer white clay-like material is being weathered; beyond this whiter material lies a gibber plain formed by residue of an earlier duricrust and no longer protecting the softer underlying material.Stones and small boulders from the gibber plain are lying on the lower slopes where they have fallen or been carried by running water.
