Noccundra today contains a community hall and a hotel siutated near Noccundra waterhole on the Wilsons River. The first licence for Noccundra Hotel was granted in 1886, possibly for this building after an earlier wooden hotel burnt down. The township, surveyed in mid 1889, was well placed on the stock routes to Innamincka (in South Australia) and Tibooburra (in New South Wales) near the large waterhole with a large pastoral property (Nockatunga) nearby. A post office and police station (two constables) were established in the 1890s. But the township failed to develop and the post office had closed by 1933; the police station closed in 1959. Today the Noccundra Hotel is the only occupied building left (population in the 2006 census was 4), and the only other building is the Community Hall. The Noccundra Hotel (or Noccundra Pub) is busy servicing travellers from the oil industry, local pastoral workers and tourists on the road between Thargomindah, Innamincka and Tibooburra.
